Raetur Hugur

Virtual Reality | XR Design | Unity | Houdini
Rætur Hugur (means Roots Mind in Icelandic) is a virtual reality project made to iterate the relation of turf vegetation in the Icelandic vernacular architecture, Turf House, and the tundra landscape that shis away from human-focused narrative.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE SHOWS INTERSPECIES CONNECTIONS ACROSS SCALES
The vernecular architecture of Iceland, Turf House, unveiled the symbiotic relationships be-tween bioorganisms from plants to microbes, and animals. Its disappearance came with the notion to modernize the country. Bringing Turf House into the design conversation, initiates the reflection on the build environment in the eco-system, and challenges the extent of boundaries between human and non-human.
THINK LIKE GRASS ROOTS THROUGH DREAMLIKE EXPERIENCE
Using the rhizhomatic nature of grass roots as starting point, the experience is created to follow this dreamlike, intuitive nature of grass.
As a 3D artist and Unity visualizer, I created the environment to signify the concept of living mu-seum which rejects the conventional notion of a modern museum. Interactions with objects in this museum leads to growth of vegetations, folk-songs, tools and teleporation through the Turf House.
